I went back to this area and this time I had the all important Seiman for getting the chests and Brussian for perception.

The 8 children are definitely there.

No, it's much, much later in the game, don't worry about it now.

thank you hannah sage i ve been trying to figure this one out for awhile and the lost item

when i went thru the fortress the 1st time looking for coryool's beer they weren't there. they only appeared after i beat the boss of the fortress. so this quest can't be done until the last chapter.
