It's so difficult to use the spell books effectively, because I can't tell who can learn what or what each spell does. Is there a list somewhere of each book and who the spell would help? I haven't found such a list in the official guide.

It is missing some of the books, but there are follow-up posts below that detail at least three additional books. I’m not sure if it is 100% complete or accurate though. That’s a lot of work to check all of that with dozens of characters.
