I finished this last week, and am now waiting for the final game to finish the story. It had been a while since I played the first game, so I'd forgotten some things.
Things I like in this game:
- health meters for enemies in combat
- optional puzzles that can be replayed for more rewards
- face sets with different expressions
- full HP and Ki points (equivalent of MP) with every level up
- automatic full party health at certain points in the story
- every character has a healing skill, and some have ki-recovery skills, too
- complex storyline
Things I don't like in this game:
- battles take too long, especially when ki skills are used instead of physical attack
- enemies apparently get stronger along with the heroes. Enemies from early in the first game should be easy to defeat by the second game, but they're not.
- expensive equipment
- skills are limited, generally one learned for every ten levels up to the maximum number for that character. Also, there's only one skill so far, from just one character, that affects more than one enemy, and that skill isn't always available. Enemies, on the other hand, frequently attack the whole party with their spells.
- The underlying story is a strange mixture of Eastern mysticism, Christian theology, and postmodern cynicism. The blend is somewhat jarring at times.
I didn't really get emotionally involved until near the end, and then we were left with a sort-of cliffhanger to whet our interest in the next game. That cliffhanger involves the fate of my favorite character, so you know I'll be getting that last game when it's available. :)

I loved the first AK game, so I was looking forward to an hour trial of the sequel, then purchasing and playing. I thought it was a rather cheap shot to take the trial period down to 30 minutes vs. the hour trial you get with most games. 30 minutes wasn't really long enough to expose you to enough of the game plot to decide if you want to buy it or not, considering the cutscenes back to the first game, the overdone amount of monsters and fighting during the trial, etc. I still don't even know what this story is about! Not sure if I want to purchase a game that I haven't really seen the storyline......

Hmmm, folks must have just started playing this one, cause I don't see any
one asking for help yet!!! Let me be the first!! I'm in the Ki cave at the
beginning of Chapter Five - (Cat Nap), with Evlar and Rick. I can't get past the
row of ice crystals in order to move on. Is this a glitch or what am I missing?
I killed every creature there, thinking that would do it, but no luck! Help,
I'm stuck!!! +::sos +::biggrin
