Finished the guru and picked up the new party at Lahuna beach but can not pick up Merline or the side quests. Did I miss something somewhere? Am I supposed to find her doll?? I am lost

I absolutely love love love this game and want to move along. Any help would be appreciated.

With Jack, James and Salome go west to the next screen and then go west all the way. Along the way Merline will stop you and join you.
