Problem with save files

I had my save file slots all used and didn't want to overwrite them, so I moved the save files to a separate folder bevore starting at slot 1 again. I only left the last one (23) for now.
Now I need to get back to an earlier point in the game, so I copied that save file back into the save folder (19 - so that should show at File 18), but it doesn't come up. I restarted the game, but it still doesn't work.

Rename your current save folder to something else, maybe save_current. (I don't remember if FH uses 'save' as the default folder name, but just use whatever it is and add an extra character or word.) Put your other folder back in that directory and rename that folder to the default 'save' if it isn't 'save' already. Open your game and see if it recognizes all your prior saves. Load the game you want, then, while still in your game, rename your 'save' folder, the one with the older files, to another name, maybe 'save_old' and then your newest save_current folder back to just 'save'. Now go to your menu and save the game. This works for me and I don't have to worry about moving folders in and out of the game folder itself. I just rename the folders inside the game directory.

Thanks. I tried that, but nope, the game won't recognize any of the save files in that other folder.

I believe it's the entire save folder you must copy to another folder, so that includes also the config and global files.
Then if you want to reuse past saves, copy back this entire folder including both config and global, not just the list of saves.

Ah, okay.
I figured out one thing though to make it work. In my case I wanted to get back to save file 19, so in the game it would be slot 18. If I save the current game on slot 18 and then copy and paste the old save file back and replace the new one, then it will recognize it.
