I need 3 manticores, but having crawled over the mountain trying to find encounters that have any, I've only found one. I know that there were a few mixed troops which included a manticore on the way up, but they might all have been permanent defeats, rather than respawning.

Is it even possible to do this, or is it yet another quest where if you don't do everything exactly right (in this case, avoid encounters) you automatically fail?

Same exact problem for me. I mentioned in a previous post that I would NOT thoroughly explore the mountain in my next playthrough. Just try to get to the city on top and come back down later. Indi replied rather coyly that they were a large animal and maybe didn't respawn as quickly and those pashas.

I'd recommend making sure you have the latest package.

When was the latest package uploaded? I thought mine was pretty recent.

A few days might not make the cut. To be on the safe side, just redownload now.

I redownloaded and went back to places where I remembered there were manticoras, and they are still not there.

I found them in the end.

So where are they? I'm so fed up with all that running around and I just can't find any more of them.

I seem to remember that the only places they respawned for me were the farthest right maps and the lowest maps. Not sure if that's just coincidental or intended. And you have to have the latest version.

My money is on littlebro remembering exactly where he found them, though, so hopefully he'll respond.

I would happily but I don't remember by heart.
Let me try and look it up but where are you exactly in the game? Because things can change as you progress.

I'm still at Saint Mountain. I have Penelpoe and just wanted to finish this quest before returning to the Elven Forest.

Penelope's presence does spawn extra ones. Now looking if there is one that never goes.

So not sure if I missed one (the maps are very big so it's always possible) but it seems the way it works is that getting Penelope triggers a whole new bunch of Manticores to pop up, and this should be enough to complete all quests involving them.
Maybe littlebro can also pop up and confirm?
