Would anyone be able to give me a teensy tiny hint - or maybe even a huge great big whopping one - about how I can get close to this damn Crystal God?

I have managed to lower the forcefield with the help of the "world explorer", backtracked (which wasn't too bad), and I really don't want to go on to the final Ice Shrine battle without saving those poor monks I've tried any and all boosts I have to no avail

It's funny but I've been able to let other quests go until next time but this one feels important - I must have got emotionally invested in the dying monks

Agreed and the threat is big, not so different from the demon.
All I can say is that the Crystal God constantly makes its surroundings so freezing cold that... you're not gonna do it without some expert help

Mmmmm...I may have to sleep on it "Expert help"!!?? Unfortunately I don't remember all the dialogue with the monks - I KNEW I needed to pay better attention It seemed as though perhaps Nyx had a few important contributions...Mmmmm

Did you manage to solve the quest? I went around and talked to everybody but nothing happens. The only "expert" i can think of is the monk's god ( don't remember the name ). There's a big statue of the god in a fenced area. How can i talk to him?

Could it have anything to do with the statues on the right where Busho says "The dragon staring at the monk"?

I thought about it. Dragon...fire, the crystal god makes everything cold... For a second i thought fire balm was the trick and i realized the fire balm is actually anti-fire.
Then i thought the new merchant in the volcano could help but he doesn't talk. He won't even sell me armor anymore

I have a feeling it's going to be the stupid boosts again and it will turn out i chose the wrong ones from the volcano guy!

Yep, I was going to try the Volcano merchant who lilac mentioned - woke at 4:36 am with that "inspiration"...but it was wrong!!!!!

And then...I DID it!!! I am so surprised and pleased - found the "expert help" Indi hinted at - dare I say
Mind you, that's not the end of it -

I've been trying to do that and was on the verge of giving up until I came here and saw that you succeeded using that method.
When I try and do it, Busho is okay with it, but Genevieve steps away saying that they need more magic protection.

I can give an MDF boost to all 4 of them, but I remember Indy saying that boosts were not necessary for any battles, and that all boosts should be saved for quests.
Ah, but of course - this is a quest! So maybe it's okay to use them?
However, it's late where I am, and I'm tired. I shall leave this for the morning.

Good idea - tackle it fresh By the time I managed to get the cold protection, I was feeling so stubborn I just thought I'd burn through boosters in order to do it!!

And done!

It wasn't too bad, but once again I regretted using Magic Reflect skill, as a number of times the reflection healed the boss by more than one whole turn's worth of damage. So my suggestion is not to use it here.
