Quest #40

I was batting 1.000, then came up against a stone wall. Yeah, mixing my metaphors here...
So I finally caught the golden cocka but I can't get Quest #40, the one about mangroves, to trigger. I have a horrible feeling it's because I didn't catch the dumb bird until after I returned from the mountain with Penelope. I interpreted "You must have completed sidequest #028 before" as prior to initiating this quest, but now I'm thinking that "You must have completed sidequest #028 before" means before going to the mountain. Can anyone verify this for me, please? Thanks.

Edit-In Lilith's Camp, heading back to the spaceship, this conversation transpires in the treehouse.

Barbuzzo: "I'm having a small rest. Fenlyr gave me some of his magical potion to spread on mangroves, and it's very tiring, as they're constantly trying to escape!"

Caius: "You can't do it with these two big wings of yours?"

Barbuzzo: "Actually they are not big, as far as wings go. Also, it's a slightly insulting thing to say."

Lilith: "Don't mind him, he's always like that. On another note, Fenlyr asked us to do the same thing, too."

Except that I didn't get the quest and Fenlyr didn't ask us to do the same thing.

I can confirm that you have to catch Cocka before getting Penelope if you want to get the mangrove quest.
I also reported in the bug thread about that bit of dialogue, which shouldn't happen if you haven't got the quest.

I believe... this should be fixed already? +:::|
How old is your version?

I must have missed that post. Thanks for confirming. Now, the question for me is, do I restart from an earlier save, so many, many hours ago, or do I just keep going and maybe trying the second ending this time. Decisions.... decisions... :)

@Indy, 10/1/2020. I'll download the latest soon.

The second ending is really different from the previous one - It was worth it for me to finish both endings - the second one actually surprised me when I thought it was going to be a worse ending when in fact it looked like a better one +::heart

Really!? Last night I was definitely going for the 'to heck with it, I'll just go for the second ending.' This morning I was more, 'No, you've only lost 8 or 10 hours and you'll be sorry in the long run.' Having read this, my decision is made! I'm going for both. I'll hold off for as long as I can cashing in on the Pasha/Snow Trap quest and just spring forward from there. Thanks for chiming in, darkange. <3

You get an excellent reward for completing #40.
Spoiler: show
+6 MAT for everyone and 8 recipes for permanent stat items.

And remember those Mangroves are fast, so you might need a boost and you can do it with only 1 boost if you have a plan. +::Thumbup

I jumped way ahead in a temporary playthrough to see if it was worth it, and it was SOOOO worth it. So, now I've gone back to the regular game and I'll bide my time, but I'll get there in the end. I didn't use an energy boost. I took littlebro's advice and used one of those energy crystals (something like that) which are routine drops in the snowy mountains. Having restarted this area twice now, I can redraw the St Mountain maps with my eyes closed!

Eventually I'll catch up with you and reach that second ending. You'll get there long before I do, if you haven't already. Thanks for sticking with me. <3

I'll be boarding the saucer soon. I've gotta find another passenger at the Arena, kill a swamp critter, etc. before I get into the Ice Shrine.

Let me know if you ever find Goblet Vermin as an ingredient during your travels. The party with Genevieve will find a lot of ingredients and those permanents are NICE. +::wizard
