About frustration...

This is a very unusual statement about a game that has mostly received positive feedback and benefited from a lot of care, efforts and involvement from myself.
It's true some of the sidequests aren't easy, but... that's how they are meant to be.

I can't get Genevieve apparently because I missed something in another village that I can't even access anymore. And so I can't get past the smoke screen to progress in the game and am stuck from progressing any further.

I talked to her once in the tower, finished going through (checking EVERYTHING), beat the boss. Genevieve is gone from where she was before and I've searched everywhere in the village, Ruins, and tower and can't find her.

The whole Genevieve part is impossible. Genevieve can't "disappear" from the tower unless you recruit her.
If you want, send me your savefile, and I'll fix that part for you.

Have done the red monkey quest multiple times, going all the way back to the village and back in the Ruins and it just keeps stealing my gold.. .and yes, i am taking the monkey-repellant off before going near him.

This is a sidequest and not an easy one.

Have wasted a ton of time going back and forth back and forth. This is the worst Aldorlea game I've ever played and I've played many. What a waste of money. Ten hours in, at least five of which has been spent going back and forth doing nothing, and no way to progress. Tons of quests and sidequests is great but not if they can't be figured out without buying the guide and not when missing one thing blocks you from completing the game.

Laxius Force or Millennium had bits like that too. It's not a first for me and I don't see why you'd get so upset about it.
I can definitely get you Genevieve so you can keep on with the main quest. Sidequests, however, are meant to be difficult. Again, it's not even a first. If you did play Laxius Force, then you forgot how it was +::Dunno

I have no clue why but turning the computer off and turning it on again this morning did something to make Genevieve re-appear so I was able to get her now. I haven't tried the monkey quest again - who knows, maybe it will work now too? If not, fine, I missed some of the other quests. I was mainly so upset because I couldn't progress at all without Genevieve.

I've played Millenium and Laxius Force games and do not recall any of them being this hard to figure out what to do, though yes, it's possible I forgot. I talk to and inspect every little thing and so it's frustrating if you have to talk to someone numerous times before it triggers a sidequest. Without the guidebook, you have no way to know that some things you have to keep repeating.

Sorry for my rant last night. am still frustrated but at least I can continue playing and am glad I decided to try one more time. I was really enjoying the game up to that point and hope the rest will be enjoyable.

I don't see where I can delete the thread but feel free to delete it if you want.

I finished this game twice just to see the 2 different endings. I still never completed every quest, but I have lots of notes for when I feel like playing it a 3rd time (or 4th, or 5th, or ....).

I understand the frustration you are feeling. Many of us share that with you. It is definitely the most difficult of Indi's games for "completionist" players like me who just gave up on completing all the quests during the first play. I did find the second playthrough to be more enjoyable than the first time even if I didn't finish everything during the second game either.

The Genevieve quest and Red Monkey puzzle are 2 of the hardest you will find if you area a logical thinker. Sort of like the Golden Cocka quest (I'd like to stuff that bird for dinner this week). +::biggrin

There are lots of forum posts to help a bit and some with exact answers to what you should do to succeed. Some of us started playing this only hours after it was released, so the community support felt incredible. Imagine everyone feeling the frustration like you did. It really became a support group here. +::clap

Thanks, Kimo. I can definitely see where community support helps with this game! I somehow had Genevieve reappear this morning..... turning the computer off and back on somehow triggered something?? AND that red monkey finally talked to me and showed me the secret room, the first time I tried after restarting the computer. A glitch? Something I inadvertently did that triggered it to work? Dunno.

However, I feel bad for venting on here now that I'm able to continue playing, but I do appreciate the support. I think it helps knowing some of the quests are frustrating for others as well; I was starting to wonder if my brain cells have been dying off without me knowing it. I had to give up on finishing all the sidequests too, though the perfectionist in me hates that! However, hopefully on the second go around, I'll accomplish more... and I hope your 3rd and 4th and 5th plays will result in you completing all of them!

And OMG I had forgotten about that damned chicken!!! +::biggrin I'm vegan but I'll stuff that little bugger right along with you!

Sorry, I believe the initial message is gone, as per the request of the poster, but it seems ONLY the initial message went away, so that leaves a thread that is a bit hard to understand.
I'm not sure what to do with it, now +::Dunno
Just, as I said in the other thread, should a bug or even a problem arise, I'm always here to try and solve it.
I check the forum daily, so it should never take too long.

I didn't start the thread, but I have no problem with my comments being deleted. Of course, that is my opinion. I just wanted to pass my experiences along, so Ozgal might understand they weren't alone.

I am fine with the entire thread being deleted, since Kimo is also ok with their comment being deleted.

That said, I think because I was quoted, it will be understood even with the initial post gone. Perhaps it will be helpful to others to know it's worth persevering - and it is! - through any frustrating parts. It really is a great game, and it's not the fault of the game that I ran into that glitch. Probably something to do with the old laptop I'm playing it on.
