Q#6 requires a Recipe that you can allegedly get in the Metal Workshop (Kraken's). According to an answer by Indy to me in another post, you apparently need the guy in the Metal Workshop to upgrade (metallize) more than 1 of the items you bought for Q#3. I only had one of them and was never offered the recipe, so it apparently requires 2 or more of those items to be upgraded at a cost of about 275 gold each. So I cannot complete Q#6 now or so it seems.

You also need to buy enough stuff from the guy in the Metal Workshop just to be offered the option to upgrade and then you need to have kept the 4 items (or at least more than 1 of them) you bought for Q#3. And then, hopefully, you can use the upgraded items to complete Q#3 after the Metal Shrine.

Bottom line is that if you complete Q#3 before getting the recipe for Q#6, you will be stuck unless you bought additional Q#3 items. Ahhhhh. Visios of FH quests are dancing in my head.

I have now missed several opportunities to complete quests. So why bother? Well, for me it is to document what is necessary to complete these in a future playthrough. But these convoluted quests can feel very frustrating.

I tend to think you can get SQ3 completed before getting Kraken, no?
Like giving the items, then going to Metal Fortress and back?

I received an item which allows me to go to the Metal Workshop, so I am able to return everywhere I was before.

That means I can buy more of the Q#3 items, but Caroll is no longer at the Metal Workshop to upgrade any of the items. I know where he is, but he apparently is on vacation and not upgrading equipment. Kraken offers to build a relic in the workshop, but I am short 1 Mithral (I think that's all). So far, there is still no mention of a recipe for Q#6 and I am ready to enter the Tube.

I think I may be out of luck on this quest, also. I just didn't have enough gold early in the game to buy enough stuff for Q#3.

I have finished Quest #3 and I have Quest #6. I have not yet gotten Kraken to join my party (well, I did, but now I'm reverting back to an earlier save). My ores are Mithril-4, Crystaliz-6, Azura-3, Darkling-8. I gave the 4 ores to Suze, at least she says she has them and now I just need the recipe. However, I still have Mithril-4, Crystaliz-6, Azura-3, Darkling-8, so it never subtracted any from my inventory. Now, the reason I reverted back to an earlier save was because when I was in the workshop, Kraken asked me for ores and he gave me a Mithril Crown, Azure Gloves, Crystal Crown, and an Uberblast. But it seems he took all my ores (save 2 darklings) so then I had none left to give Suze. (And Kraken still thought my stash of ores was 'underwhelming.') I wasn't able to buy a double of all Harpy items but now that I have more money, I'm going to be sure to have one of each on hand before Kraken brings me there. Maybe then I'll be able to get that recipe. Hence, my reason for reverting back to the earlier save. EDIT-And it appears 3 is the magic number, as in upgrade at least 3 of the 4 Harpy items.

There's an item that will let you return to the workshop? That would certainly be helpful. I don't think I have it.

I tend to think the trick is to complete SQ3 before getting Kraken, this way you get back your items before entering the Metal Workshop, and can metallize them.

I have finished Quest #3 and I have Quest #6.

That's what I was saying. You should, there, have gotten all of your items back.

Unless I'm mistaken the correct order is:
1. complete SQ3
2. give 4 ores for SQ6
3.find kraken
4. go to metal workshop
5. metallize 3 items
6. get recipe for SQ6
7. give recipe

So, you can fully complete Q#3 and get 2 items back (Featherbrush and Rules of Organization was all I got) before you find Kraken? But, even then, you will need an addition item from the Harpies to have 3 to be upgraded by Caroll and get the Recipe for Q#6.

I guess I'll find the trigger to complete Q#3 during the next playthrough. And why did I only get 2 of the Q#3 items back, when you said I should get them all?

The Harpies are in the Evil Shrine (both of their places) so way before you get Kraken.

So what triggers Harold to give back some of those items you give him for SQ#3? The Quest is marked complete, but I know at some point he will give back 2 items to metallize for SQ#6 which I have been given by Suze.

For some reason, I only have 3 types of ores after the Chaos Shrine. Crystaliz (2), Azura (1), Darkling (8) so obviously Mithral is missing which may be in the Metal Shrine.
