I created a table to use during my next playthrough, so I thought I would share it with everyone. I was not able to complete the requirements for 4 Ultimas. Acquiring all the Ultimas is a quest in itself. I would suggest you spread out your uses of some character's Technics because you will easily end up with levels above 200 for spells like Blaze.

And getting Kraken's Technics all to at least Lv3 status is necessary if you want the final available Relic (if I am correct in my thinking about a certain chest in a SR). Kraken is such a major force of destruction that improving his skills seemed less important than the others. I was wrong and will change my strategy next time.

2 items are important to success in acquiring Ultimas.
1. Book of Scrolls adds +1 to spells after each win. BUT you need at least 1 use recorded for a spell for this to happen. Otherwise use will stay at 0.

2. Maleficus Generatus (Relic) adds +1 to skills to holder of Book of Scrolls (must be equipped by another party member). Same requirement for a skill to have at least 1 use. The description mentions a Doll that I never found?


And the award for the spell you expect the least from? Piper's "He Has Arisen" that I expected to just Resurrect all party members with some restored HP/MP.

I didn't complete all the Ultimas first playthrough as I didn't fully realize the value of Book of Scrolls and Maleficus Generatus until late in game. I'm definitely playing much more strategically this second playthrough. There are 2 places I found dolls. One is one of the 4 gifts you get from Lexus, but I chose the Book of Scrolls. The other is the one mentioned by @Lis in the Witch's House reached by the portal in the Metal Fortress basement portal. The doll gives a bit of healing to the user following each battle, Lexus's doll gives a bit of extra damage to the targeted enemy following a spell. Extra damage is good, but +1 uses for all spells is better I think.

how do you know what level each tech is at

Menu > Technics > Spell gives the level, e.g. Blaze Lv3
The highlighted spell shows times used in upper text box, e.g. >>> 146

In the description box at the top of each skill there is a number on the left side of the second line preceeded by ">>>" which is your number of uses and tells you how many more uses are needed for the next Level. The Spell/Skill current actual Level is to the right of each Technic name in the list below.

Just remember that the Technics need to be at least ">>>100" uses to become Ultimas (except for one of Piper's IIRC).
