I don't really understand what the str and res stats do and want a better idea before choosing how to build my characters. Is str related to attack damage and res related to magic defense, and men related to magic attack? I looked at the online manual but the description isn't very specific. Any clarification would be appreciated.

ST = strength = the higher, the higher the damage you do with your weapon
RS = resistance = the higher, the smaller the damage you take when the enemies attack u
MN = mind = the higher, the higher the damages you do with your spells and the smaller you take from enemy spells
a high RS also raises chances of critical hits

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure of some of this as well.
Specifically, that RS affects criticals.

people with a big RS are naturally feeling more courageous and likely to take risks and go (reach) for the critical hit!
targeted ppl who are slow are more likely to take a critical hit in their face too
all logical

it's what i like about the battle system i created, it's very funny and effective to look for the best balance of stats
especially in LF where there are so many different items.

So if you have low speed they can critical hit you more. But it depends on their RS too. I would love to ask for formulas but I couldn't understand.

absolutely, it works both ways
a high RS/SP character will give more critical hits and take less
