Maze of Malufus teams

Help needed again please.I got to the crystal with a team of three and the siren sounded but then it asked if I wanted to go back and I said yes so seemed to go back to start.
When I looked for help in the forum somebody mentioned parties of TWO, is that right? And if so who is best please.There are some awfully hard fights to do with just two in A PARTY.

one team i used was just random and barreta
they seemed to do the job just fine.
depends on the levels the people are all on.

YEs. Random can be with only one more character

Believe or not, I messed up with the parties, so I ended up only with Random by himself at the last maze and still made it. Don't ask me how.
