Horizon Odyssey

Easy Mode and Puzzles

Postby Matt Ryan » Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:20 am

I updated the game so that Tilde-e (the prophet that gives hints in the major cities) gives stronger hints if the difficulty is set to Easy. Some puzzles are easier on Easy Mode too (for example, there are fewer guards in the Prison now on Easy). I put in more hints in general for some of the puzzles regardless of the difficulty. I hope that helps out with the difficulty.

This game looks promising. Will there be a Steam release in the foreseeable future?

cannot go anywhere. You've said to use the action button, but that does nothing. I cannot go back underground and I cannot exit out the front door.

I do want to get it up on Steam in the future. I don't know when yet exactly as I don't know what it entails currently, but I'm hoping sooner than later. Aldorlea's site seems like the hub for RPGs so it seemed like a good place to launch it. :)

I've since added this smudgy area that if you step on it, it asks you if you want to go back underground, but you can interact with the wall here and it will ask if you want to go underground as well.
Does this help?

Hovia Embassy

I've flipped all 4 switches but still can't get to Mary. The guide doesn't really explain how to get to her?

The part that says this: Now push the Red Switch 3 times and go up (right side) and flip the switch that was protected by the 4 gates.
Is the part that gets to Mary. It doesn’t mention her, but she’s by the switch mentioned there. If you left the building, you’ll have to start the sequence from the start, or you can just flip the switches until the paths line up to get to Mary.

Ruins Room 2 Puzzle.
How do you solve the 2nd. part of puzzle? I've followed the guide, the door in cell room is open but I can't get the blue crystal to go away. Is there a certain order you step on the squares? I need the Freedom orb

I got it

You have to turn the two squares in the middle off and then turn the 4 corners on. So basically only the 4 corners will be lit up to get the second part open. Hope this helps.

Do you have any plans to update the guide? If so, you might also want to look at Map #183 (Vordenstople Palace Study, pg. 167). The crystal puzzle solution says the crystals are numbered #1-3 and outlined in orange. That doesn't seem to be the case. Also, it talks about pushing #1 and #2 up 3 times and then #3 down one tile. I'm assuming #1 and #2 are the tiles you can access, but you can't access tile #3, so it's tile #1 (#2, whichever is on the right) that needs to be pushed down one. The directions do help to get started, but do not serve as a solution. Fortunately, by the time you encounter this crystal puzzle, you've pretty much got the hang of it so you can easily figure it out.

Almost finished. Had a lot of fun playing. Gotta admit, some of those puzzles were REALLY hard and I doubt I could have completed without the guide.

Yep, I want to update the guide as long as there are errors or improvements I can do. Thanks for pointing out that one. Definitely sounds like a mistake. The update will be in a couple days. I’ve made a few other changes as well.

I’m hoping my latest update for easy mode helps with the puzzles and the hints from Tilde-e as well (Markus in Hovia now points her out in a required conversation so people won’t miss her).

I’m happy you liked the game and I hope you enjoy the ending :)

I was enjoying the game, but have now given up :( The crystals puzzle in Vordenstople palace study simply has me beaten. I'm not after instructions to do it - I've got those - I simply can't manage it, even in easy mode :(

This is a real shame as I hate to leave a game unfinished, but I apparently don't have the manual dexterity to achieve this one. I don't like this sort of puzzle in these games - it's not what I want to play.

I totally agree about puzzles that require dexterity, but these seemed to be more about math/spatial than dexterity. And there's one puzzle that the guide is in error anyway. There is so little left to the final ending. Which room are you stuck in right now? Maybe it can be done. I struggled, almost gave up like you, but I did manage to succeed. It was just one, one of the right hand side rooms, that caused me to begin pulling at my hair.

Matt, if you are redoing the guide anyway, you might want to look at the legends for M1. Ctrl-F only finds 81 (and 2 are in the descriptive text, not the legend, so they don't count). There are actually 85 that should be listed in the legend. An example of the legend is M1. Paradox Miasma in the broken barrel.
The 5 maps that are missing the M1. legends are maps #76, #115, #125, #142, #146, #161.

Going to check on Liberator and Freedom orbs as I only have 24 Liberator Orbs and 23 Freedom orbs (and 95 paradox miasmas, so definitely missed a few of those, too). I can see a Freedom orb on the last screen, map #189, but I can't find a way to reach that bridge. Still, I missed 1 Liberator and 1 Freedom. Going back to tie up loose ends.

I did finish the game. Definitely one of the most esoteric games I've ever played. I thought, for the most part, the ending provided a nice finish. Again, I'll restate, I don't think the ordinary person (those of us who are non-math geniuses) would have completed some of those puzzles without a guide.
Spoiler: show
I felt a little less than satisfied with the explanation of the Flower Man. In my mind, he was the 'good god,' the antithesis of Bazael, but I would have liked to have seen that final meeting between Chrysal and his maker.

Thank you for being so readily available. It was a pleasure to play this game. Looking forward to your next game. :)

Edit: The treasure chest containing a freedom orb on the final screen, map #189, can be accessed by pressing the action key at the pipe structure left of the entrance to the merchant cave.

I want to say THANK YOU very much for your wonderful game! I played it 2 times already. I played original version on normal mode, it was challenging and I loved it!I found puzzles interesting, most of it(but not all) I did without guide. It gives you feeling of satisfaction.I love all exploration and many findings and surprises in your game, the sistem of skills, many skills are unusual and interesting, as much as the characters. Interesting, not trivial story. I definitely will be play the game again. It left me with emotions and feelings I want to experience once more time. My first time was about 50 hours to finish the game, the second-about 40. It was wonderful time for me! And I hope to see another your games in the future!Thank you! +::heart
